Seattle to Langley – I rode with Julie and Becca. This was the first time I was able to ride with Julie which was a treat.
We woke up, packed up the vans, and got our stuff together. We had a breakfast of leftover ziti thanks to St. Andrews Episcopal church, and then said goodbye to our hosts before starting our ride.
Most of the ride was on the interurban trail heading north which made for some nice easy going riding.
Before lunch, we ran into the ride group ahead of us who had stopped because a dog (Stevie, pictured below) was running around the road, and they took a break to catch her and call her owner. It was the second time she escaped that day!
After that, we stopped to pick and eat some blackberries, and then rode north to the ferry at Anacortes. There was a large and fun descent into the ferry terminal.
Immediately after the ferry ride, lunch was waiting for us on the beach! We only had six miles after lunch to ride to the host, so we took a long lunch to go swimming. We played keep away with a toy hedgehog, and helped to recreate scenes from the little mermaid.
After we were rested, we rode the final 6 miles to the host, assuming that they would be relaxing, but they had some of the biggest hills we had encountered all day. This was difficult.
Once we made it to the host in Langley, we had a lovely time exploring the shops and getting ice cream. Some people in town told us that we might be able to see whales over the next few days if we keep our eyes open.
After that, Christine, Sierra, Julie, Alan, Lauren and I helped to make dinner. Thanks to a donation from Molly’s friend Alex, we were able to make some veggie burgers and chicken pasta for our team.
After dinner, we all went back to the beach by downtown. The tide had come in since the afternoon, and the water was very choppy. With the sunset, it made for some very pretty scenery.
Roni had the idea that we all discuss what things we wanted to bring home from the trip that we had learned or discovered. It was a really nice moment where we were able to process the trip together as we got closer to its end.
We went back to the host after, and packed for an early morning the next day so that we could make our ferry to Friday Harbor.
All in all another super fun day.
